Why integrate Emergency Planning?
Emergency Planning is not a stand-alone activity. It contributes to, and underpins, many of the activities carried out within a museum, such as:
- Identification of areas for improvement
- Identification of areas needing maintenance
- Pest monitoring
- Stores checks
- Environmental and leak monitoring
Much of the information that is gathered for an Emergency Plan can also be very useful for day to day activities, such as collections care. For example, knowing about the volumes of collections, and identifying hazardous materials, can help plan for better storage - as well as ensuring all legal requirements are fulfilled.
