Handling Object Types (6 of 8)

How do I handle furniture? (continued)

Chairs

Chairs should be lifted from their base (the side seat rails) as this is the strongest part. DO NOT lift a chair by its arms or back.

Place one hand towards the back of the seat rail and the other hand towards the front.

Try to avoid touching any upholstery.

Tables

Tables should be lifted from their aprons. DO NOT lift a table by its top or legs.

Where possible, legs should be padded when moving a great distance, as this will protect them from chipping and scratching.

Specialist objects

Certain objects such as grandfather clocks and pianos should only be moved by specialists, as parts may need to be removed or special equipment required.
