How are the areas monitored?

It is important not to rely solely on spotting signs of pest activity, as at this stage objects may already have been damaged. A regular routine of monitoring should also take place so that any increases in the pest populations are identified, and measures can be put in place to eradicate them.

In order to monitor the areas containing collections, pest traps are placed in the areas at risk, and are checked regularly (usually every quarter but sometimes every month) to see what insects have been caught. This will give an indication of the pest population in an area, which may need further investigation.
