Common Museum Pests (4 of 10)
Beetles (continued)
Wood
Wood is damaged by the following pests:
- Furniture beetle or woodworm (attacks the sapwood of hardwoods, such as oak and ash)
- Deathwatch beetle (attacks oak hardwood that has been damp)
- Wood weevil (attacks really damp wood)
Wood damaged by beetles is covered by tiny holes that are the entrance and exit points. The structure of the wood may be severely compromised, as a network of tunnels unseen from the outside may eventually cause the object to decompose or become structurally unsound.
