Before You Start (5 of 7)

How do I assess the route and destination? (continued)

Destination

Ensure that the destination of the object is prepared. The area should be clean and, if necessary, padded with Plastazote® or a layer of acid-free tissue.

Do not store objects on the floor, even temporarily, as they are likely to get damaged. You may want to consider padded blocks to rest larger objects on, to make lifting easier in the future.

If you are going to be moving a number of objects, ensure that those to be stored or displayed up high, or at the back of cases or shelves, are moved into place before those in lower positions, or at the front.

Ensure that there is no food, drink or smoking in the areas that any objects are being removed from and moved to.
