Basic Object Handling (5 of 8)

How do I handle small and large objects?

Particularly small or delicate objects, and large or heavy objects, require particular handling methods.

Small or delicate objects

Small objects can become twisted and tangled, and will be more easily carried in a box or a tray. Support them in a box or tray with acid free tissue puffs or Plastazote® foam to stop them moving or sliding about. Acid free tissue puffs cradle objects but ensure that they are still visible. Do not wrap the objects in tissue paper as they will not be visible.

Take care when lifting or putting down delicate ceramics and glass, as they may have hairline fractures, which could cause the object to shatter if jolted.
